Real stories from families and volunteers
Read genuine feedback from parents and volunteers about how Wave supports young people on Hayling Island through safe spaces, creative activities and community connection.
I volunteered for Wave Children’s Charity as I’ve just retired and wanted to keep my mind and body active, plus I see youngsters with various issues and nowhere to go. A safe youth club environment seemed a good choice in my local community, and I’d like to think the children can express themselves better at school.
I like the fact that there are activities for the children should they wish to access them, but alternatively the children have the freedom to do their own thing if not.

I love volunteering at WAVE. It’s been great getting to know the youths of Hayling. I love that WAVE offers a safe space for them to hang out. Also, Wave’s music studio and Saul have given the time and space for the band to grow and become more confident in performing together. They are awesome. (Corrodean Zink)
Having been Music Mentor at Wave for nearly two years, I’ve seen young people grow in musical ability, confidence and character. Their friendships have strengthened through playing and supporting each other, and what began as a small, nervous group has become a talented band performing at local events, open mic nights and regional competitions.
Continue with the hard work you put into improving the lives of the young people on the island, you do an absolutely fabulous job.
